Jenny Greenteeth by clockwork-madness Jenny Greenteeth by clockwork-madness
I based this illustration off of the English fairytale of Jenny Greenteeth, a sort of water hag who was wont to lure children into the water, drown them, and then carry them off for supper.

It was a really last-minute decision to use this story, and I am really glad that I did, because it turned what would have previously been a loveless, lackluster piece into something a bit more special. There are still things I want to go back in and fix/tighten up, but for all intents and purposes (and time constraints!!) I am calling it done for the time being.

I'm not going to lie, though, I am pretty excited with how this came out. For many reasons it is my most ambitious piece to date, and something that never would have crossed my mind to even attempt a few months before. Though it's flawed in some ways (that I don't know how to really fix at present bah) I'm still pleased.

Done in Photoshop CS5 w/Intuos tablet.

Thats amazing. I love it. She looks like she could talk a kid into going with her too. Even green.

NICE! Some things the could help would be making the edges much darker and letting the light really filter down. Also, the skulls look too adult. It's definitely hard to get reference of child skulls, but making them smaller and perhaps a little rounder...? But Jenny is definitely well developed and the drowned child is super creepy- maybe a bluer tinge to his skin just for the added effect of his death?
Awesome concept and nice composition- maybe the placement of the skulls could help lead us toward her a little more visually, but her placement on the page is great and I like where the cave entrance sits.

Oh gosh I hardly ever get good critique comments, so already thanks a bunch! :)

I've darkened the edges on my main copy already, because I presented it to my class for critique and the projector made it seem darker than it actually was and it looked better ;) I just wasn't sure if I should upload the other copy cuz I didn't want to spam people.

I'll try what you said about the skulls, too. To be honest they're not as well-done as I wanted them to be anyway but I was so READY for this to be done and ignored it, haha, so this gives me more reason to go back in and try and modify them.

Hmm for the bluer tinge I was unsure about just because I wanted to give the impression of the very-recently dead so I just tried to make him paler. But I shall go tweak it and see what happens...

I'm really glad you like this, though, and thanks again for your input. :)

Sure thing! It's definitely a hard thing to give critique so I'm glad I didn't offend! It's a great piece :)
